Photo Scanning and Restoration

Photographic technology has drastically changed in the last five years, thanks to the availability of digital scanners, color printers and fully digital cameras.  SwiftStream can put this technology to work for you by restoring antique photographs using digital techniques.

How it works

Damaged photographs are first scanned to produce a full color, high-resolution digital image file.  Using professional digital photographic software and a powerful computer, SwiftStream restores this scanned image to produce a new image file which is then printed on a high-resolution color printer.  Color correction, brightness and contrast correction, removal of tears, scratches and even full reconstruction of missing parts of the photo are performed.  The restored image files can be produced in various formats suitable for storage on floppy disk or CDROM, or optimized for display in a website.  The result is a new "photograph" that reveals detail that had been obscured for decades.

Before and After

This image was scanned from an antique mantle clock that contained a 1905 advertising calendar for Antikamnea pain-killer tablets.  The stiff cardboard original had cracked into two pieces, and had been varnished when the clock was restored several decades past.
