Photo Scanning and Restoration
Photographic technology has drastically changed in the last five years, thanks to the availability of digital scanners, color printers and fully digital cameras. SwiftStream can put this technology to work for you by restoring antique photographs using digital techniques.
How it works
Damaged photographs are first scanned to produce a full color, high-resolution digital image file. Using professional digital photographic software and a powerful computer, SwiftStream restores this scanned image to produce a new image file which is then printed on a high-resolution color printer. Color correction, brightness and contrast correction, removal of tears, scratches and even full reconstruction of missing parts of the photo are performed. The restored image files can be produced in various formats suitable for storage on floppy disk or CDROM, or optimized for display in a website. The result is a new "photograph" that reveals detail that had been obscured for decades.
This image required restoration of missing text in the upper left corner, as well as reconstruction of missing portions of the flower over the right ear of the maiden. Runs from the varnish coat were removed, but the darkening of the varnish has produced a permanent color shift. The image still retains its antique look and the edges will be hidden by the frame of the clock's door. Please note that the above image is reduced in size and resolution for efficient display in the web environment, but the image used for printing is much more detailed and consequently has a larger filesize.
Contact SwiftStream at (512) 258-7490 if you have valuable photographs to restore, and we will give you pricing information based on the scope of work. Results can be supplied to you as printed photographs and/or files transmitted electronically
