anufacturing flexibility was not a design consideration until the advent of "world-class manufacturing" nearly a half-century after Henry Ford invented the assembly line. At Boundless, "just-in-time," build-to-spec manufacturing and concomitant quality assurance are more than a consideration – they are the norm.

The keys to our system are manufacturing "cells," minimal tooling changes, constant real-time access to blueprints and specs at workstations on the factory floor – and fully empowered teams. Our Hauppauge factory is a model of "flat" organization, with all hands concentrating on production, quality, and efficiency – not traditional line supervision. Experienced line workers like Elvira Pironti (above) and Lucina Garcia and Eric Caverley (below) take personal responsibility for each unit and are empowered to reject a unit at any time if they find it flawed.

For today’s terminals and thin clients, our manufacturing is enabled by high-quality vendor and delivery partners for whom "just-in-time" is routine. It’s further enabled by well-trained, highly empowered, skilled employees and the availability of a large worker pool when needed for additional shifts. We have ample floor space and a complete complement of capital equipment in place, most for testing and quality assurance. Thus, we ramp up or gear down as each customer assignment requires.
