Customer:
A well-known developer/supplier of high-end, fault-tolerant computer systems for mission-critical applications needed a terminal manufacturer with matching high quality standards. Exhaustive quality assurance procedures – considerably beyond industry norms – would be required for the first group of units shipped. ISO 9002 certification was also mandated.

Solution:
Boundless was already an ISO 9002 certified facility. For this customer, however, we subjected the first 200 units to the customer’s own rigorous product acceptance process. All units passed the testing, which included out- of-the-box inspections, a burn- in cycle test, vibration analysis, and a functional final test, as well as communications, keyboard interface, and video alignment verification.

roduct failure is not acceptable at Boundless Technologies.

Using our automated test process, we test 100 percent of our product output – and have such a low product failure rate for the terminals and thin clients shipped to customers that we’re the envy of the industry. That’s no accident; at Boundless we’ve implemented a "zero tolerance" testing and quality assurance system.

Our flexible manufacturing system processes are certified to meet the strict requirements of the International Standards Organization’s 9002 standard, which is re-earned every six months through a rigorous auditing process.

We have on-site virtually every testing capability that a customer could want: a freestanding facility for testing radio-frequency emission from within units. Devices to burn-in up to 100 units at a variety of ambient temperatures; strife testing; ESD testing; power line transient testing. Specialists like James D’Mara (in the "hot room," above) and Mary Carter, Karina Reyna, and Geraldine Destefano (below) double-check performance, unit by unit.

But it’s not just the individual test stations; it’s the system of testing, the philosophy of quality, that imbues Boundless operations. Each unit is tested for quality by every skilled employee who touches it; as it moves down the line, it’s accompanied by its own computer-coded history. And each adjustment in final assembly is made with sensitive, computer-controlled instruments.

We know that our customers don’t care whether a unit is tested once or ten times. They care that they get a unit that’s right the first time and that doesn’t fail. We’re dedicated to seeing to it that terminals and thin clients built by Boundless will continue to record one of the lowest failure rates in the business.
